Jorgen Fernandez

Jorgen Fernandez

Jorgen Fernandez at His
Little Habana Studio

Jorgen was born in Havana, Cuba in 1958, and along with his mother immigrated to the United States in the 1970's and settled in New Jersey, studying art throughout his life earning an arts degree at the State College of New Jersey. Having done some great work in New York's Garment District and created commercial work for famed fashion designers as Jeffrey Banks and Ives Saint Laurent.

Jorgen strongly believes in creating art for the community and for the public. Twenty of his paintings are part of a permanent collection exhibits for the public in the garment district of New York City. His art has taken over the 9th and 10th floor of The Pictorial Review Company building in, and others are owned by private collectors in Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Spain.

He enjoys using a painting technique named sanguine, it’s a variation of ferric acid known as hematite a mineral form of iron. This process may result in a variation of color but most in the gamma of red's much like the result of a blood stain when spilled over fabric. This technique used by painters in the 13th and 14th century, dubbed the name of the "Century of Artillery" you may have heard of one painter in particular famed for his sanguine paintings he was Leonardo Da Vinci. Da Vinci described by the painter in an interview as "El gran maestro" (the great teacher) and the surrealism work of both Dali and Picasso are among his inspirations.

  2. Jorgen was my neighbor at 742 15th Street. Not only is he a great artist and he is a great person as well. He would give you the shirt off of his back. If there was only 1 piece of cake left, he would not think twice and would make sure that you did not go away hungry. He truly lived the life of a starving artist. Many times we shared the last piece of something together. He is truly one of a kind and one with the Creator.
