Tony Rodriguez(Juan Antonio Rodriguez Olivares) was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1980.He is a Painter,illustrator , and Curator. He has been called, a Painter of reflections. He was a professor and member of prestigious juries in the context of the visual arts. He's considered by many as one of the leading artists of Generation 00. In addition to exhibiting extensively in Cuba and the U.S. , he has also exhibited in Latin America, the Dominican Republic, and Eastern and Western Europe . He uses towers, buildings, machines and other objects, to represent the world, liberty, history and the human experience. His drawing and composition are aggressively executed. Since 2000, Rodriguez has won several awards. His works have been exhibited in the Havana Biennal in 2009 and many important galleries in Cuba and Europe. Rodriguez' works are part of prestigious collections, such as, Luciano Benetton and the Hispanic Cultural Center in Miami.

Juan Luis Perez - Cuban Artist

Juan Luis Perez was born in Havana, Cuba in Jan 20th, 1970 and raised in Miami, Florida from an early age. Drawing and sketching from the age of 5 and winning multiple awards in school fairs along his beginnings. Picked up oil painting in the early 1990s after art courses in Miami Dade community college.
Participated in many successful exhibitions and exposure worldwide, he’s been humbled to have collectors from Italy, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Spain, Germany, and many local collectors. Prize winner of the 2017 Artexpo New York Poster Challenge. Exhibited in Art LA, Palm

Living abroad in Europe this dynamic emerging artist, has managed to embrace diverse styles throughout his art life highly influenced from the Vanguard school of artist from San Alejandro School of Arts in Cuba, to many accomplished masters from Europe. A self taught artist and a student of many, his vibrant approach has emerged from a desire to explore the vast landscapes of the soul. A composition of harmony with elegance and a rich texture that captures the eye of his admirers to explore and depict vast and interesting features that define his latest work as abstract expressionism a literal composition of a story expressed in artistic poetry.

Artist's Statement
I consider myself totally away from fads or trends. When I create a piece of art, I am guided only by my truest inspiration from a total freedom of choice. Being completely self-taught, I do not believe in the academy and its dogmas, and even less in the market claims. So, I change my artistic style as if I were changing my clothes. For me, art is a passion, a fun, a great adventure.
I use dissimilar materials such as acrylic, oil, charcoal, graphite, resins, gesso, alcohol, newspapers sheets, etc. I love monochromatic tones and rough or dynamic strokes, as well as I enjoy turning the spatula in the biggest protagonist of my work.
My thematic interest revolves around human beings and their most pressing conflicts. My works are profound social portraits of a generation. Similarly, I’m interested in cultural dialogues between East and West, or between societieswhich, despite their differences, belong to the same condition: human.

Guillermo Estrada Viera, sculptor, painter and printmaker.

Born December 9,1963, Guillermo Estrada Viera is a sculptor, painter and printmaker.
Estrada began this mixed media series by collecting "libretas de abastecimiento" (ration card Booklets) from Cuban families for an entire year. He used these booklets upon which to produce his woodcut prints. After the printing process is complete, the final effect is achieved by holding each piece above lit candles, slightly burning the paper.
Estrada has seamlessly married his materials and ideas, producing a series that speaks to the hunger of the creative heart and reflects the ongoing hardships suffered by Cubans over the shortages of food and other goods. 

Gloria Lorenzo (Santa Clara, Cuba 1954)

Gloria Lorenzo’s work reflects a profound versatility of mediums and depth of expression and expound on her desire to formally capture time, emotions and reality in an effort to provide form to the intangible, to that that cannot be contained.  Her sculptures have evolved from primarily enameled clay objects to larger scale pieces that incorporate wood, metal, resins and other materials.  Gloria’s use of evocative organic forms draws inspiration from her love of structure, textures and process.

Born in Cuba, Gloria graduated from the renowned San Alejandro Academy of Art in Havana.  She quickly rose to the top of Cuba’s avant-garde exhibiting in the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Center for Design and Fine Arts and the Amelia Peláez Gallery among others.

Gloria left Cuba and emigrated to the United States in 1991. That year, she was featured in two solo shows in Spain at the Mayfair Villa Franca de Penedes and Sala del Ayuntamiento of Saint Sadurni in Barcelona. In 1994, Gloria was invited to participate at the prestigious International Latin American Art Fair in Brussels and at “7 x 7: Encuentros” at the Museo Ateneo in Caracas.

From 1993 to 1996, she was represented by Meza Fine Arts Gallery in Coral Gables and her work was featured in Art Miami ’94, ’95 and ‘96. Gloria has had solo exhibitions at the Metro Dade Cultural Center in 1997 and at the Cuban Museum of Miami in 1998.

In 2000 she participated in two group shows, at Fraga Fine Arts Gallery, “Virgenes” and “Two Ways/One Concept” and a solo show in 2003.  Since 2004, Gloria has had yearly solo exhibitions at Imaginart Gallery in Miami.  Her sculptures are part of the collections at the National Museum of Contemporary Cuban Ceramics in Havana, the Cultural Foundation in Quito, Ecuador and the Lowe Art Museum in Coral Gables, FL.

Gloria currently lives and works in Miami.  In addition to working with clay and acrylics, Gloria has executed site-specific installations and large-scale murals.

Pure and Beyond - Feb 3-12, 2017 at Coral Gables Museum

The Coral Gables Museum was proud to present this group exhibit as part of its Local Artist Series, which is presented on Gallery Night in Coral Gables every first Friday of the month. Featured artists have been recognized individually by the art community for their talents and collectively for the common thread that unites them – abstraction.  The Coral Gables Museum wishes to thank artists Maruchi Carmona, Bibiana Cervantes, Margarita Correa Ochoa, Mysora Garcia, Pedro Hernandez, Andres Lacau, Gloria Lorenzo, Jose Paez del Nogal, Emilio Hector Rodriguez, and Mai Yap, for their participation in this exhibit.
The Local Artist Series aims to provide a venue, voice and platform for artists to present their work as well as to provide the community with a diverse array of cultural encounters and experiences that enhance quality of life in Coral Gables.
