Eliseo Valdes was born in Havana, Cuba in 1956. A graduate of the San
Alejandro Academy (1977), he earned an advanced degree from the Superior
Institute of Art in 1982.
A contemporary painter and sculptor,
Valdes' work evokes abstract expressionism and surrealism. With his
use of bold colors, abstract geometric shapes and ameoba-like forms, he
creates beautiful pieces that are both technically impressive and
visually pleasing.
His paintings and sculptures are
exhibited in museums and public art galleries around the world,
including Cuba, Venezuela, Mexico, Spain, and Germany.
In addition to his work
as painter and sculptor, Valdes works as curator for the Cultural
Foundation of Cuba. Eliseo Valdes is member of the Union of Writers and
Artists of Cuba (UNEAC); member and specialist of the CODEMA National
Advisory Board for the Development of the Monumental and Environmental
Sculpture). From 1995 to 1998, he was member of the Workshop of Plastic
Arts Ruckelshausen INC. of the Bildert Welt Gallery in Hamburg, Germany.
From
1985 to 1988 he exercised as the specialist of the Fund of Cultural
Goods in Havana, Cuba. He has taught different levels of artistic
classes for students at National School of Art (ENA) and at “23 and
C” School of Elementary Level , among others.
